Ukraine
An undercover police officer walks the line between duty and desire while gathering video evidence at a private sex party.
SYNOPSIS
Yevhen, a 35-year-old National Police officer in Kyiv, goes undercover to a private sex party to gather video evidence against its organizers for allegedly running a place of debauchery. Struggling with the tension between duty and desire, he navigates a world of masked hedonism. As the lines between his professional role and personal experience blur, Yevhen confronts unexpected emotions. Against the backdrop of Ukraine's political landscape, the investigation takes an unforeseen turn, challenging his sense of morality and identity.
INTENTION
Ukraine has long strived to prove its place in Europe. Yet absurd cases still arise, as in early 2024 when an undercover Ukrainian policeman attended a private sex party and recorded his act as “video evidence,” leading to the organizers’ imprisonment.
While Ukrainian civil society fights against the aggressor, authorities continue to abuse their power. My goal is to document this contradiction: a nation seeking European integration yet unprepared at the regulatory and administrative levels.
In my view, a healthy society begins when it openly confronts its problems. With my background as a lawyer, this story is especially compelling to me and worthy of exploration.
I plan to employ a semi-documentary style, observing the protagonist’s experience through a cold, detached lens, similar to hidden camera footage. The narrative will unfold like a court verdict — dry and declarative. Characters will appear in real locations, blending fiction with documentary elements, a method I’ve used in previous films.
Inspired by Kafka’s The Trial and early Michael Haneke films like 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance, I aim to offer a stark portrayal of events, much like a lawyer presenting facts.
