ALBANIA MON AMOUR
Filip Jembrih
Slovenia
In a coastal Albanian town, young love between two women unravels over the course of a single day — as one prepares to marry a local man for money.
SYNOPSIS
During a single day in a coastal Albanian town, Slovenian couple Iris and Ana seem to be on a carefree vacation — until it’s revealed that Ana plans to marry a local man for money so he can secure a green card. Iris thinks she’s fine with the whole plan, but as the ceremony nears, she begins to feel as though she’s losing Ana. Tensions rise, testing their bond. A tender portrait of young love set against a backdrop of cultural and moral complexity.
INTENTION
The idea for Albania Mon Amour came from a close friend who once arranged paid marriages between Slovenian women and Albanian or Kosovar men seeking EU papers. One of the brides was her own partner. That moment of realization triggered my personal confrontation with internalized social norms. I want to make a film that unfolds like a memory — fluid, emotional, and nonlinear — capturing fleeting moments and the emotional undercurrents of a relationship on the verge of transformation.
Rather than following a traditional narrative, the story will drift through moments shaped by mood, intimacy, and silence. The camera will stay close to the characters, observing gestures and tensions as they arise. It will be a film about what is left unsaid, about glances and touch, and about the ungraspable space between personal freedom and social compromise.
